After several workshops and a safari trip a few years ago, I was really looking forward to going for another ride with Ingrid! I ventured into it with a new camera body in my bag. What a successful adventure, thanks to Ingrid's good advice. No question was too much, both technically and photo-wise. As a tour guide, Ingrid is also top notch. All her questions, kindly asked, were answered, both in the jeep and in the lodges. No effort was too much! I did not see the crossing, but that was more than made up for by the appearance of an extremely rare serval cat that emerged from the dry grass 10m from our jeep!!! Wow, the camera chatter was indescribable again!! ;0) I am already looking forward to the 2025 program, because I want to experience that crossing.
As “porter” of Pierrette's material and non-photographer, I was also there, and I would like to have my say. All the good things about Ingrid, in terms of photography, tour guide, etc., have already been wonderfully highlighted by the 'phrenetic' photographers. (see all feedbacks) After a short introduction to the jeep, I was immediately appointed “Chief Walkie Talkie”. When leaving the lodge, the connection was always tested with the words: 'hello Ingrid, test 1,2, over!' At the end we were already at 999, so there was already an atmosphere of fun from early in the morning! But it was also (sometimes) serious and all the advice regarding ISO, aperture, shutter speed, etc. etc. was expertly passed on from one jeep to the other. This way everyone remained well informed and could respond immediately to certain situations. In the afternoon and evening, especially, the ISOs were put aside and a glass of wine or two (3) was enjoyed (so nonsense was allowed). So as a non-photographer you don't get bored and you are still part of the group, because those photographers are strange creatures, (Pierrette included)!! One afternoon at the lodge, Ingrid even took the time to review my cell phone photos. Apart from a bent horizon and a better composititon, my photography was not too bad. Next time I'll try to get the entire elephant in the frame! ;0) . So, every photographer in the group who is ready for it will have a turn to have some photos assessed and possibly improved! What a service!!! I'm already looking forward to the next safari with Ingrid, because it looks like Migration is back on Pierrette's list.
Once you've had a taste of a safari with Ingrid, you'll be hooked! Also the 7th time around the high expectations were met! I "redid” the migration safari. The accommodation was even better than last time, the jeeps have been extra adapted so that the "little ones" in the back can also look out over the edge, the food is delicious and beautifully presented,... But that can't even compare to the professional drivers/spotters and the super asset Ingrid. She tirelessly kept providing explanations/advice about Kelvins, ISOs, high keys, etc. She only sits in her chair during the trips between the parks, the rest of the time she kneels/stands/lies in the back among the photographers to answer questions, set equipment, consult manuals... And in the meantime spot animals and explain about their behaviour! And yes, the large migrating herds were not there yet, but there was more than enough to see to make it a fantastic experience! Number 8 has been booked long time ago!
